Frequently asked questions
Products & Collections
What data are your prints based on?
Our prints are created using open source, highly detailed topographic map data, including contour lines and landscape features.
Map tiles served by OpenFreeMap. © OpenMapTiles. Map data from OpenStreetMap, available under the Open Database Licence. See openstreetmap.org/copyright.
This means each design is based on real-world terrain data rather than being drawn by hand.
Are your pieces ready to buy or made to order?
We offer both. Our Collections include ready-to-buy pieces, while custom maps and prints are made to order based on your chosen location and specifications.
Are your prints framed?
Some prints are available framed, depending on the options selected. You’ll be able to choose your preferred format before placing your order.
Our frames are made from real wood, giving them a high-quality finish that works beautifully with the simplicity of the map artwork. For more information, see this page about our frames.
I can't find what I'm looking for. What should I do?
If you can't find what you're looking for in our ready-to-buy collection, try designing your own print with our 'Design a Print' custom flow. You can choose any location, and customise the colour, title, and design. If you still can't create your perfect print, please get in touch with us as we are happy to consider bespoke requests.
Custom Designs
How does the custom map builder work?
Our custom map builders are designed to be simple and easy to use. You can create a custom print by choosing your location, colour style, orientation, text, markers and optional route details, depending on the design options available.
If you go into the 'Design a Print' page, we guide you through the process. If you need any help in designing the print you have in mind then please reach out to us at hello@ridgeandform.com - we'd be happy to help.
Can I create a map of any location?
Yes - our custom map builders are designed to let you create a piece based on almost any place in the world. Please note that the quality of map data will vary in different parts of the world.
Can I add a route or location markers to my print?
Yes, for custom prints you can add a route where this option is available. This could be a walking route, cycling route, running route, or another meaningful journey.
You can also add a location marker. These are ideal for highlighting summits, towns, start points, viewpoints, special places, or meaningful locations.
Can I choose which place names appear on the map?
Place names and map labels are generated from the underlying map data we use. We don’t manually choose, rename, or verify every label, so occasionally a place name may appear differently to how you know it locally, or a label you expected may not appear.
If there’s something specific you’d like included or removed, please get in touch before ordering and we’ll do our best to help.
Do you check custom designs before printing?
We’ll print the design you submit through the custom design tool, so please check all text, locations, markers, routes and layout carefully before placing your order.
If we create a bespoke design for you manually, we’ll send it to you for review before it’s printed.
I can’t create the design I want. What should I do?
If you can’t quite create what you’re looking for using the online design tool, please get in touch with the details of what you’d like. We can create a design for you and send it over for review before you place your order.

Why do you use Perspex instead of glass in the frames?
We use Perspex because it’s lighter and more shatter resistant than glass. This makes it safer and more practical for shipping, while still giving the print a clean, polished finish once framed.
Will the colours look exactly like they do on my screen?
We do our best to show colours accurately, but colours can vary slightly depending on your screen settings, device, and the printing process. Therefore, there may be small differences between the on-screen preview and the final printed piece.
